Brief History of the original village group
In 1992 a small painting group was formed and met in the Village School on Friday evenings. This was mainly a self-help group with the occasional visiting tutor. In September 2000 the group decided to expand by becoming a daytime group. This proved a popular decision with a new membership of 25 from Dry Drayton and surrounding villages and a waiting list for places. A Committee was formed and the group has gone from strength to strength.
Where and When?
The group meets on Tuesday mornings in the Village Hall, Dry Drayton from 10.00 a.m to 12.30 p.m. Members pay a fee of £20 each term.
What goes on?
As an example, during the current term various tutors have demonstrated and encouraged members in watercolour, acrylic, life drawing and portrait painting. Occasional day schools are held either in the Village Hall or School at a small extra charge to members. Coach outings to various exhibitions and events are arranged and non-members are welcome to join these.
Art Exhibition 2009
The annual Art Exhibition was again well attended with over 100 visitors on Feast Saturday. This year provided a challenge for the organising commitee as there was more space to fill in the newly refurbished Church. Nevertheless we rose to the challenge and filled every corner. Needlework was exhibited by Pam Ducker, rugs were exhibited by Derrymore Weavers and the School exhibited their "heads". Sales of exhibits were down this year, but this is not surprising in the present economic climate.
